Edison’s investment companies team recently published a CGI review. The company has an enviable record of outperformance versus the Canadian market; 1.4 and 2.3pp per annum over the last 25 and 50 years respectively. While CGI offers a one-stop shop for investment in Canada, up to 25% of the portfolio may be invested in US stocks. Manager Greg Eckel is unconstrained by the benchmark’s sector weightings, with a very long-term underweight in financial stocks and a meaningful above-market allocation to technology. Portfolio turnover has picked up from historic very low levels, partly due to the deployment of a recent drawdown of the company’s margin facility. CGI has a progressive dividend policy and 2024 will mark the 11th consecutive year of higher dividends. MORE »
